The '1st Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research' (organised by the European Commission and the African Union Commission through the EuroAfriCa-ICT EU/FP7 project coordinated by Sigma Orionis) will take place at the European Commission premises on March 25 (Albert Borschette Centre) and 26 (Charlemagne Building). Over 250 delegates have already confirmed their participation in the event while more than 300 are expected (coming from all over Europe and sub-Saharan Africa). The Forum is sponsored by the ‘Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions’ (SPIDER), the ‘Canon Foundation’, the ‘Sharing the Knowledge Foundation’ and the ‘eLearning Africa’ initiative. The NEM and the eMobility European Technology Platforms, the INCO-NET ‘CAAST-Net’ and the FEAST project have also decided to bring their strong support to this major and not-to-be-missed event never held in the field of Euro-African cooperation on ICT research. This event will be a unique opportunity for event attendees to network with key stakeholders in the field (private and public); identify potential cooperation partners; learn more about the “EU-AU Partnership on Science, ICT and Space” (the 8th Partnership) and the EC/AUC reseach programmes; hear about opportunities to enhance African participation in FP7 and learn more about successful EU-African FP7 cooperation projects and EU-African PPP (Public-Private Partnerships). Keynote speakers confirmed to date namely include: Ms Viviane Reding (European Commissioner for Information Society and Media - DG INFSO), Hon. Sally Kosgey (Minister of Higher Education and S&T, Kenya), Hon. Goundé Désiré Adadja (Minister of ICT, Benin), Ham Musaka Mulira (Senior Presidential Adviser on Information and Communications Technology, Uganda); Abdul-Hakim Elwaer (Director, Directorate of Human Resources, S&T, African Union Commission - AUC); Ms Aïda Opoku-Mensah (Director, ICT and S&T Division, UNECA, Ethiopia) and a high number of European Commission’s Officials.
