Sigma Orionis has started its operations on May 1, 1984 (under the name Sigma Consultants), i.e. twenty-five years ago, at a date when Roger Torrenti, its founder (and still CEO of the company) left the research center he was managing in Sophia Antipolis with a vision to “contribute linking more closely research and applications”. The company has developed over the years, generating several spin-offs. The development of the company has indeed been mainly driven, all along the years, by some values shared by each team member: integrity, excellence, hard work, openness and loyalty. Despite its relatively small size (10-20 staff members in average), Sigma Orionis is proud to repeatedly take on big challenges, and manage them through successfully, in the field of international cooperation on ICT research, of ICT for tomorrow’s homes, and more recently of ICT for a global sustainable future. The company has faced and survived many economic crises in the past 25 years, including today’s one, with relentless efforts to fully maintain its capacity to cope with ambitious projects. “The name Sigma Orionis comes from a small but very bright star in the constellation Orion”, reminds Roger Torrenti. “I would be very happy if people can consider we are a small team truly able to be very bright, involved in meaningful business and modestly contributing to making a better world” concludes Roger Torrenti.
