ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) is a multilateral Forum aiming at reinforcing dialogue between Asian and European governments on global challenges: sustainable development, climate change, global economy and governance, etc. Beyond Summits organised every two years (in Beijing in 2008, in Brussels in 2010), ASEM supports the organisation of focused workshops, such as the one hosted by the Malaysian government on Dec. 1-2, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, on the theme “Building an inclusive Information Society”. Over 140 invited delegates from both regions have participated in this conference, that included an opening ceremony in which high-level officials from both sides participated and plenary thematic sessions, and also gave the opportunity to celebrate the extension of the TEIN3 network in Asia. Roger Torrenti, CEO of Sigma Orionis and coordinator of the SEACOOP project, has been invited to contribute to the panel addressing “Beyond TEIN3” and to chair a session focusing on “Capacity building, services and applications”.
