Scientific and technological (S&T) cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world effectively supports Europe’s foreign policy, brings together stakeholders in research, innovation and markets across continents and provide them with increased business opportunities, and may ultimately contribute to more peaceful relations between countries.
Considering the company’s mission to operate internationally and CSR policy, it is therefore logical that Sigma Orionis is heavily involved in international S&T cooperation projects.
For over 15 years, Sigma Orionis has thus actively contributed strengthening S&T cooperation in the field of ICT between Europe and both Africa (particularly Sub-Saharan Africa) and the Asia Pacific region (China, Japan, Korea, South East Asia, New Zealand, Australia, etc.). This involvement primarily, although not exclusively, comes under the projects supported by the European Commission (FP6, FP7, and H2020 programmes), such as EuroAfrica-P8 and eI4Africa for Africa, or SEACOOP and OpenChina-ICT for Asia (see our project portfolio).
For these projects, often coordinated by Sigma Orionis, the company most often manages a wide range of activities, including the evaluation of cooperation potential and priorities, focused thematic analyses, the organisation of cooperation events. Over the last 10 years Sigma Orionis has thus organised around 200 cooperation events in 40 countries attended by 20,000 participants (see list here).
