Sigma Orionis was founded in 1984 by Roger Torrenti, an engineering graduate from the Ecole Centrale de Paris, who was responsible at the time for a research team at the Ecole des Mines Paristech. His vision was to help build a stronger ‘research - innovation - markets’ process through studies and research. This vision has shaped Sigma Orionis’ development since its creation and remains its guiding principle today.
Roger Torrenti is still the CEO of Sigma Orionis, a French Limited Company based in Sophia Antipolis, “The international city of wisdom, science and technology”, near Nice Côte d’Azur international airport, from where it conducts its European and international projects.
Over the years, Sigma Orionis’ offer has expanded and now features a wide range of services, from assistance in setting up research projects (namely in response to European Commission’s calls) to the preparation of exploitation plans and business models, including technology and socio-economic assessments, market research, watch services, foresight studies and support in disseminating research results (communication strategy and tools, cooperation events, etc.).
Today, Sigma Orionis is proud to describe itself as a reliable company benefiting from 30 years of professional experience and a solid international reputation with:
Sigma Orionis is the name of a small, luminous star in the Orion constellation and serves as a reference to the team of employees who are the company’s greatest strength, and are deeply committed to international, innovative and ambitious projects.
This team is today co-managed by two Project Directors: Karine Valin, a graduate of the ESCI Fontainebleau and the University of Evry (Masters in Marketing and Business Development), who joined Sigma Orionis in 1999 and Camille Torrenti, a graduate of the EDHEC Group’s ESPEME (Masters in International Marketing) and SKEMA (Masters in Business Intelligence), who joined the company in 2007.
