The Internet has achieved unprecedented success worldwide, but some challenges are still to be faced and considered, such as security, QoS guarantee, controllability and manageability. Public packet Telecom Data Network (PTDN), innovated by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), is a new packet-based data network，which remains the advantages of current Internet and solves the problems of Internet facing.
PTDN has three fundamental characteristics: (1) has an edge to divide the user network and core network, furthermore, keeps the core network invisible to all user networks; (2) has a capability of network virtualization to support more users and services; (3) is easy to control and manage the network resources, including virtualized resources.
PTDN was listed as one of important research questions of ITU-T SG13 (Future Internet) in 2007. Since then, a series of ITU-T Recommendations (Y.26xx series) have been released. Now PTDN is one candidate for Future Internet.
CAICT works closely with industries in research and implementation on PTDN in China, and also cooperates with famous international providers and vendors, such as NTT, NEC etc. In the future, CAICT welcomes more international partners, and hopes to work together to push the development of future network.
This first webinar organised by the EU-China FIRE project imparted information and knowledge on PTDN technology and standardization. It was organized on February 9, 2015, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM (GMT) and featured the participation of Dr. Cao Jiguang, Vice chief of Division of network development, Department of telecommunication development, Chinese Ministry for Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
