2nd workshop – Paris

The FLAGSHIP 2nd Workshop on ‘Economic, social and environmental challenges and their feedback into integrated scenarios building’ was held in Nanterre (Paris), at the premises of the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie (OME), on 13 June 2014.

This one-day event was organised under the umbrella of the FLAGSHIP consortium, which is committed to support the formulation of new policies capable of effectively address global challenges. Precisely, this event was the perfect occasion to reflect and discuss about the Grand Societal Challenges, and to share views and contributions about the innovative tools, methods and models that the FLAGSHIP project is currently developing.

The morning sessions mainly discussed:

  • FLAGSHIP models: adaptations to address grand societal challenges - The focus of this first Round table driven by Iñaki Arto was put in how to find the right tools to analyse the future of Europe, and how to combine and ensure the consistency of the different models used by FLAGSHIP project.
  • FLAGSHIP view on territorial governance: global trends, regional impacts – This second Round table chaired by Kai Böhme reflected about issues such as the impact of the European diversity in governance, and how to go beyond national and local levels in the study of it.
  • FLAGSHIP Global Scenarios: going for growth or socio-ecological transition? – In this third topic-specific table, Carlo Sessapresented two story-lines towards the future: one going for conventional growth, and another introducing innovations that can change the European quality of growth.

During the afternoon, all 33 attendees shared their views about the FLAGSHIP’s background paper, which had been previously sent to the workshop participants with a summary of the research and results conducted by the consortium on these issues. The results of the event were taken as precious inputs for finalising the project reports and for next FLAGSHIP’s Policy brief, coming soon.
